Nat Spada’s Top 10 Tips for Interior Photography

Creating a beautiful space is one thing, but capturing it, through the lens of a camera is another! The purpose of styling is to evoke emotion and tell a story, and it is imperative that those feelings translate to the imagery you capture. More often than not, this imagery – be that for your portfolio, website or social media – will be what sets your work apart from others. Whether you’re staging a home for sale or styling your latest interior design project, your spaces should captivate and inspire.

We recently had the privilege of welcoming renown Interior and Architectural Photographer Nat Spada (formerly The Palm Co) to our showroom.  From luxury homes to commercial spaces, Nat specialises in curating high-end visuals that showcase the beauty and functionality of every design. “Through my editorial lens, I partner with creatives to capture the passion, stories, and details that define those spaces” says Nat.

Nat’s photography regularly graces the pages of Australia’s leading interior publications such as Vogue Living, Home Beautiful, House & Garden, Inside Out, Real Living and Adore Home to name a few. At our exclusive STYLE MINDS trade event, Nat shared her inspiring creative journey with our clients, along with so many insightful photography tips and tricks.

As a former property stylist herself, Nat knows all to well, the importance detail plays when it comes to creating and capturing a space that truly connects with someone and allows them to imagine themselves within it.

Below Nat’s shares her top 10 tips on how to enhance your interior images:

  1. Use a tripod
  2. Set up the grid on your phone camera
  3. Shoot with the lights off
  4. Adjust the brightness before shooting
  5. Keep the camera between chest height and eye height
  6. Make sure the taps are all straight and the stools are lining up
  7. Use walls, floorboards and ceilings to help get the camera straight
  8. If you don’t have a tripod – hold the camera close to you chest and take a deep breath and hold it
  9. Edit using a preset to save you time and give you a consistent professional look
  10. Have fun! This is a fun industry to be in – just relax with it and enjoy the process

If you rent the Display Stock for the purpose of marketing and selling a property and sale contracts exchange or the property is withdrawn from sale before the end of the Term, then:

  • we may request to collect the Display Stock immediately, at our discretion;
  • if this occurs during any ‘free weeks’ period of the Term in which there are no applicable Rental Fees, then you must allow us to collect the Display Stock early; and
  • in all other cases, if you accept our request, we will arrange early collection.

Schedule 1 – Risk Protection: fire, flood, theft, vandalism

(a)     Defined terms in this Schedule have the same meaning as in the Terms and Conditions above.

(b)     The terms in this Schedule apply if you choose to acquire risk protection when you place an Order.

(c)     You must pay us the fee for Risk Protection specified in the Schedule of Fees (Risk Protection Fee).

(d)     Upon payment of the Risk Protection Fee and subject to clause (e) below, for the duration of the Term, we release you from the Display Stock Indemnity in clause 15.2(c) to the extent that Loss arises from any of the following events (each a Defined Event):

(i)     theft and/or vandalism of one or more of the Display Stock items, resulting from a forcible entry, and provided that the theft or vandalism has been reported to the police station nearest to the Property within 48 hours of the event; and/or

(ii)     fire or flood damage to one or more of the Display Stock resulting from a fire or flood in the Property.

(Risk Protection)

(e)     The Risk Protection is subject to the following conditions.

(i)     Risk Protection does not extend to wilful or intentional acts committed directly or indirectly by you, or any party ordinarily resident at the Property.

(ii)     You must notify us of the occurrence of a Defined Event within 3 Business Days of the event occurring.

(iii)     Upon the happening of a Defined Event causing loss or damage to one or more items of Display Stock, you must pay us an excess per item of Display Stock lost, destroyed or damaged up to a maximum aggregate excess (per Schedule of Fees).
